The NorthForest T29FHC firewood processor is the main machine we build for landowners and small firewood sellers. Because a chainsaw plus a separate splitter burns a whole day, this T29FHC firewood processor lets one operator cut and split on the same deck. Price $12,975.

First, you roll the log onto the steel chain infeed. Then you set the cut length, drop the 22 inch bar, and let the ram split after the saw returns. Therefore the pile grows instead of your backlog. In addition, you can add a live deck when you work alone and you do not want to lift every stem by hand.

Why the T29FHC firewood processor

This T29FHC firewood processor is built for people who run about 15 cords a year and up. However, it is not a toy and it is not a commercial 40-cord plant either. Instead, it sits in the gap where most Canadian woodlots actually work. As a result, you get full hydraulic controls without hiring a second person to catch rounds.

You do not manhandle the log through the cut. The clamp holds. The saw comes down. The piece drops. The wedge fires. After that, the outfeed belt carries the splits toward a tote, a trailer, or a ground pile. So the job looks like a small production line instead of a workout.

Cutting section

The cutting side uses a Parker hydraulic saw motor and a 22 inch bar. Automatic chain oil keeps the bar wet while you work. In other words, you are not stopping every six logs to squirt oil from a bottle. A safety stop kills the circuit when the saw cover opens. Therefore you can change a chain without guessing if the bar will drop.

Logs go up to about 20 inches in diameter on current builds. Cut length is about 10 to 21 inches. That window covers stove wood and most furnace lengths. If the log is longer than the infeed, you either buck it first or you add the live deck so 16 foot stems can feed instead of 12 foot stems.

Splitting section

The split side is automatic after the saw returns. Cycle time is about 6 seconds. A 4-way wedge ships as standard. A 6-way wedge is optional when you want smaller pieces without a second pass. Hydraulic wedge height lets you match the block instead of fighting a fixed knife.

A safety cage cuts hydraulics when it is open. That is not decoration. If you reach in, the machine should stop. Marketing on some older pages says 29 tons. Meanwhile the owner manual lists 27 tons. So use 27 tons when you print a spec sheet. The difference does not change who should buy the machine. It does change what you should put in writing.

Infeed and outfeed

The infeed is a steel chain, not a rubber belt. Chain lasts longer when bark, ice, and grit hit the trough. A lock holds the log during the cut. After the cut, the short piece drops into the splitting trough.

The outfeed conveyor folds for towing and storage. Height adjustment matters because a tote sits low and a high-side trailer sits high. If the factory belt is still too short for your trailer, add the stand-alone 20 foot firewood conveyor after the processor. That longer belt is a separate product. It does not replace the belt that ships on the T29.

Hydraulics and oil

Use AW32 only. Other oils can void the warranty. Capacity is about 27 to 28 litres. The system uses a two-section pump. Saw, split, and conveyor circuits are separate enough that one function does not starve the others when you work at a normal pace. Donaldson-style filtration is there because dirty oil kills pumps. Therefore you change filters on schedule instead of waiting for a noise.

Engine note

Confirm the engine on the crate you ship this season. Builds have used Loncin about 16.5 HP and Kohler about 14 HP. Electric start is the point in Canadian winter. Do not advertise a brand that is not bolted to that serial number.

Who it is for

Woodlot owners.  Sellers. Farms that heat with wood. Anyone done with a saw, a splitter, and a sore back.

Who it is not for

It is not for 8 inch branches only. A cheap electric splitter is enough for that. It is not for 24 inch frozen oak all day unless you accept a slower feed and honest diameter limits. If you need a full commercial plant, this is the wrong class.

Live deck hydraulic feeding table. 6-way wedge. Road-legal kit if you tow on the highway. Stand-alone 20 foot conveyor when the factory outfeed cannot reach the trailer floor.

Maintenance in plain language

Grease the conveyor bearings. Snug bolts after the first hours. Change engine oil on the engine maker’s schedule. Keep AW32 in the tank and keep the saw chain sharp. If you skip that, the machine still looks fine in a photo. However, it will not keep a 6 second rhythm.
